Z Hotels market themselves as affordable, compact and luxury. The sleek group has hotels in London, Liverpool and Glasgow and all of them are located in the most convenient areas of these cities.
We checked into Z Soho located at 17 Moor Street for a two night stay, just a short walk from Piccadilly Circus tube. The building is a designer conversion of twelve Georgian townhouses. From the outside you see classic architectural proportions, combined with contemporary style. Inside there are 85 rooms gathered around a central courtyard. After a quick check-in we found our bedroom on the second floor overlooking The Palace Theatre.
The bespoke double bed was snug against the window and within the bedroom there was an ensuite shower and toilet with a glass partition. Under the bed there was room for storage of our suitcases, but there wasn’t a wardrobe for hanging clothes, but plenty of hooks. What you don’t receive in space the hotel makes up for in other ways, a sumptuous bed with crisp linen sheets, a Samsung flat TV in the wall, big fluffy towels, luxury toiletries, a bathrobe, a tea and coffee machine, free WIFI and air conditioning.
When you aim to spend much of your time out exploring and only returning to the hotel to relax or sleep, this isn’t a problem. Stepping out of the door, you will find yourself immersed in the throng of London’s West End. It’s the perfect location for theatre land with the Palace Theatre on the doorstep showing Harry Potter And The Cursed Child, nearby is the Prince Edward Theatre on Old Compton Street showing Aladdin. After a short walk to the Shaftesbury where spent the evening watching Motown The Musical. Chinatown is just a couple of minutes away. The shops and street theatre of Covent Garden and Drury Lane, the cinemas of Leicester Square, the National Gallery and Trafalgar Square are all quite close.
Breakfast is served in the Z Café, the opposite side of the hotel facing out onto Old Compton Street. Serving continental breakfast it has everything you need to set you up for a day of shopping or exploring the city. There is a selection of fresh juices, fruit, tea and coffee. Nicely presented are cereals, muesli and yoghurts and an assortment of freshly made pastries and cakes. Also there is the option of bacon sandwiches if you wish. It’s a buzzy café which also serves lunch where offer freshly prepared sandwiches, wraps, flatbreads or salads.
I really like the Z Hotels’ concept of being central and compact. It’s modern, clean and the great location is everything when you are in London on business or pleasure.
