After a 2 week road trip around California, Santa Barbara is one of the main reasons why I want to do the trip all over again!

Santa Barbara is referred to as the American Riviera; and for good reason! With red tiled roof topped white buildings lining the streets and the Santa Ynez Mountains as dramatic backdrop, Santa Barbara has a real Mediterranean atmosphere. Whether you fancy exploring the beach, enjoying some fantastic food, relaxing with a coffee, some retail therapy, exploring a local Vineyard or enjoying some wine tasting in the Funk Zone, there’s always plenty to keep everyone busy in Santa Barbara.

Without a doubt, I absolutely loved Santa Barbara and the relaxed atmosphere within this picturesque City on the California Coast, but I think our excellent choice in hotel has influenced my opinion. When visiting Santa Barbara, we stayed at The Kimpton Canary Hotel and I can honestly say, I wouldn’t even consider staying anywhere else when visiting Santa Barbara!

The Kimpton Canary Hotel is perfectly situated within the heart of downtown Santa Barbara; which means you are only ever a stone’s throw away from a wide range of Cafes, restaurants and boutique shops and within easy walking distance to the picturesque Santa Barbara beach front and the iconic Funk Zone.

The location of this hotel was one of the first thing that attracted us to the Kimpton Canary Hotel as it is perfect for exploring Santa Barbara. Although we had a car, we wanted to explore Santa Barbara on foot and for both of us to enjoy wine tasting at the Funk Zone, so a good location was vital. However, it’s not just the location that makes this hotel an excellent choice when staying in Santa Barbara.  The hotel embraces the style of the city and has a luxurious colonial Spanish interior style; with four poster beds, dark wood flooring, grand floor to ceiling balcony windows and beautifully designed furniture. Perfect for an afternoon siesta!

My favourite place within the Hotel was the Rooftop pool. Offering stunning views of Santa Barbara, craft cocktails and an impressive fireplace, this has to be the best place to relax and enjoy a glass of wine from a local vineyard! The fact that this is the only rooftop pool in Santa Barbara also makes it even more special!

The Kimpton Canary Hotel prides themselves on offering unrivalled amenities and I must say I agree! As well as in-room amenities; ranging from luxury Atelier Bloem bath amenities to in-room yoga mats, the hotel also offers valet parking, complimentary roof top yoga classes, complimentary access to Golds gym next door, access to the FLOAT Luxury Spa and complimentary bike hire!

It doesn’t stop there though… they also offer an hour of complimentary wine tasting every evening where you can sample a selection of fine wines from local vineyards and complimentary coffee every morning supplied by local coffee roasters…. Just too good to resist!

Finch & Fork Restaurant

You don’t have to go far to find great food; in fact, you don’t even need to step foot outside of the hotel! Finch & Fork is the hotel’s in-house restaurant which offers great food throughout the day with fantastic breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner menu and an extensive wine and cocktail list.

The Finch & Fork is renowned for producing some of the best cocktails and food around anddefinitely worth a visit! Head chef James Siao works with fishermen, farmers and other producers in the local area getting the real taste of Santa Barbara within ever Classic American dishes.

We chose to dine at The Finch & Fork for breakfast and I can highly recommend the roasted pork belly with smashed avocado and poached egg; one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in a long time and a perfect start to the day!
