World War One Centenary Cruise
Departs Southampton 8th November 2018,
7 nights Braemar • M1828 • Prices from £799 (cruise only)
Visit France and Belgium on a very special seven night sailing specifically timed to commemorate the centenary of World War One ending. Each destination on this emotive itinerary has been included to offer you opportunities to pay your respects to the fallen at infamous battlefields, fascinating museums and iconic memorials.
After a short sail along the English Channel from Southampton, Braemar will call first into Dunkirk. As the site of one of World War Two’s most famous events, this pretty commune features a number of museums offering an in-depth look into French wartime history. Situated close to Belgium, Dunkirk is also ideally placed for tours to Ypres, which was reduced to rubble in World War One. Perhaps cross the border and visit the Great War battlefields; take a moment at the Menin Gate Memorial, where the Last Post is played every evening as a mark of respect; and learn about Belgium’s role in World War One at the superb In Flanders Fields Museum. Ypres is also within reach of Ghent, while Mons – a major World War One battleground and the site where the first WWI Victoria Crosses were handed out – and the Belgian capital are short journeys away too. You’ll dock in Ghent for a full day on 11th November, offering you the chance to head to Brussels and be part of the annual Remembrance Sunday commemoration.
It’s also possible to tour to Brussels from Antwerp, although if you’re prepared to venture slightly further afield it’s well worth heading to Liège. This historic city is where the opening engagement between the Germans and Belgians in World War One took place and the ruined Fort de Loncin – the only fort not to surrender to the German advances – is a must-visit. Alternatively, if you prefer to stay in pretty Antwerp, be sure to wander the pretty cobbled streets and take in the magnificent Cathedral of Our Lady and the Royal Museum of Fine Arts, the legendary diamond district and the abundance of chocolate shops. Returning to France, Braemar’s final stop is Boulogne-sur-Mer, the closest port to the Somme and the exceptional Thiepval Memorial to the Missing. Thiepval features a fascinating visitor centre and museum dedicated to remembering the brave soldiers that lost their lives in the fierce battles of the Somme. Within Boulogne there’s much to discover too, including the gothic church of St Nicholas, the medieval castle and the 12th century, UNESCO-listed belfry.

Celebrity Cruises announces three new sailings from Southampton in 2019
For the first time, the modern luxury cruise line will sail from the UK to the Mediterranean in the school summer holidays
Families will be able to take to the seas with Celebrity Cruises (www.celebritycruises.co.uk, 0800 441 4054) and sail from Southampton in the UK to must-see Mediterranean destinations including Florence, Provence and Barcelona during the school holidays in summer 2019. Following exceptional demand for cruises on board Celebrity Silhouette, which will be newly based out of Southampton from 2018, the modern luxury cruise line has added three new itineraries to its 2019 season.
Ideal for families seeking a summer holiday full of fun and lifelong memories, the 14-night Western Mediterranean cruise departs Southampton on 28 July 2019. Celebrity Silhouette will sail around the Iberian Peninsula en route to the warm waters of Southern Europe. Head to Pasteis de Belem in Lisbon to sample, arguably, the best custard tarts in the world, travel back millennia to the time of gladiators and legions in the ancient heart of Rome, and come face to face with Barbary Macaques on the rock of Gibraltar. The 14-day holiday for a family of four starts from £8,516 (based on two adults and two children sharing an Oceanview stateroom).
Celebrity Silhouette will be calling Southampton home from this April and includes fun features for all the family:
Sit back and relax on the ship’s freshly mown grass lawn with views overlooking the ocean.
While away the hours in The Lawn Club’s exclusive cabanas, The Alcoves, serviced by a dedicated Alcove Attendant for whenever they need a top up or extra bite.
Guests take charge of the menu and become their party’s “Grill Master” at the Lawn Club Grill. Alongside a Celebrity Cruises chef, guests prepare a menu of the choicest cuts of beef, poultry, seafood and vegetables paired with homemade spices, glazes and rubs over custom-built grills for their table.
The CelebrityLife grilling and pizza making classes in the Lawn Club Grill are perfect for families.
The Anturus Explorer Academy on Celebrity Silhouette is one element of Celebrity Cruises’ re-launched Camp at Sea programme that provides children and teenagers with opportunities to uncover the world around them through a series of specially tailored activities. Free for budding adventurers, scientists and explorers on-board, the Anturus Explorer Academy is the ultimate mix of education and entertainment with fantastic science experiences, live demonstrations and fun challenges.
In total, three new itineraries have been added to Celebrity Silhouette’s 2019 Southampton season:
The 12-night Iceland & Fjords, departing 7 May 2019, starting from £1,979 per person in an Oceanview stateroom, calling at the Channel Islands (UK), Cork (Ireland), Dublin (Ireland), Akureyri (Iceland), Reykjavik (Iceland), and Lerwick (UK) before returning to Southampton.
The 14-night Scandinavia & Russia cruise, departing 30 June 2019, starting from £2,379 per person in an Oceanview stateroom, calling at Bruges (Zeebrugge, Belgium), Copenhagen (Denmark), Stockholm (Nynashamn, Sweden), Visby (Sweden), Tallinn (Estonia), St Petersburg (Russia), and Berlin (Warnemunde, Germany) before returning to Southampton.
The 14-night Western Mediterranean cruise departs Southampton on 28 July 2019, starting from £2,479 per person in an Oceanview stateroom calling at Vigo (Spain), Lisbon (Portugal), Rome (Civitavecchia, Italy), Florence/Pisa (Livorno, Italy), Provence (Marseille, France), Barcelona (Spain), and Gibraltar (UK), before returning to Southampton.
In addition to luxury guest accommodations, Celebrity Silhouette boasts designer boutiques, extensive bars and restaurants, Celebrity Cruises boasts the largest and rarest collection of wine at and sea and host of exclusive restaurants on-board all overseen by a Michelin-starred executive chef.
Celebrity Cruises continues to grow and expand its fleet with a new class of ship currently under construction. The first of those ships – Celebrity Edge – will enter service in December 2018.

Princess Cruises to add new ship to fleet in 2019
Princess Cruises has confirmed that Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri will build a new ship for the line, which will enter service in late 2019. The as-yet unnamed 143,000-ton vessel, which will be built at a cost of approximately 600 million Euros, will carry 3,560 guests.
The announcement, made last week by Princess Cruises’ parent company, Carnival Corporation, will increase Princess’ fleet to 19. The vessel will be a sister ship to Royal Princess (launched in Southampton in 2013 by HRH, The Duchess of Cambridge), Regal Princess (launched 2014) and Majestic Princess (launching 2017).
The new ship will include signature elements of Princess Cruises’ previous vessels including the vast central atrium hub with multiple dining, entertainment and retail venues; Movies Under the Stars outdoor cinema experience; The Sanctuary top-deck relaxation area; and the Lotus Spa. The ship will additionally include brand-new innovations that will be announced in due course.
Princess Cruises will confirm the ship’s deployment at a later date.
Tony Roberts, vice president of Princess Cruises UK, said: “We’re incredibly excited to confirm that Princess Cruises’ growth continues with the order of another royal class ship. Demand and confidence in Princess has never been higher and we’re delighted that in just a few years’ time even more guests will get the chance to travel with us in style to over 360 destinations across the world.”
Princess Cruises completes enhancements to private Caribbean island
Princess Cruises has given a makeover to its Caribbean island, Princess Cays. The 40-acre retreat, set in the Bahamas, is used exclusively by Princess guests.
The enhancements include:

• Construction of a new water sports rental area, which provides snorkelling, swimming and diving equipment
• Extensive landscaping of all areas
• Wifi connectivity ashore, making Princess Cays one of the first private islands to offer internet access
• A new marina, which will give guests more time ashore
In addition, three new shore excursions are now available:
• A clear-floor kayak ride through the island’s lagoon, which offers guests an ocean view of local marine life
• A bicycle ride to local notable sites including a market, the lagoon and remnants of the island's 19th century salt industry
• A hosted ‘stingray beach encounter’, which allows guests to feed, touch and hold live stingrays
Tony Roberts, Princess Cruises' vice president UK and Europe, said: "By making these subtle changes we’re continuing to develop Princess Cays as the premium Caribbean hideaway. Its powder white sand and crystal clear seas make it the ultimate place to relax, unwind and enjoy yourself.”
Princess Cays is situated at the southern end of the island of Eleuthera. It includes a mile and a half of shoreline; picnic and bar facilities; a lookout tower; and a shopping marketplace. For families there is a supervised children’s play area, complete with replica galleon and sand playground.
A beachside barbecue and bar is provided on every visit, with ships calling an average of seven to eight hours.
Princess Cruises is offering a 14-night Circle Caribbean sailing, roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale on Caribbean Princess, from £1953 per person. Departing Sunday, October 28, ports of call include Princess Cays, St. Thomas, Antigua, St. Kitts, Martinique, Barbados, Trinidad, Curacao and Aruba.
